The Good The Bad and the Hip Hop

Hilly_hoods I've watched hip hop from afar and for some time. It's always good to watch your enemy. That's not entirely true, I jest. Eminem has the ability to make me snicker and that's always a good sign.

I HATE WITH GODDAMN PASSION the trashy bling bling hip hop that presents women as useless, brainless sex toys. Why? Well apart from the obvious (being me disagreeing with such portrayals ahem), I find it really really, mindnumbingly boring. Am I alone in this?

Methinks not.

However, then came the Hilltop Hoods. An Aussie hip hop band, yes certainly reminiscent of Eminem in this clip, but with a distinctly Australian accent... No profanity, no insults to women, just a few blokes strolling around Adelaide with attitude honey.

I love it, also, because I really want our young people, in this country, to always have their own voice, as distinct from any other countries'. This stuff inspires kids I work with, I like it.

On the downside, it's dark and depressive. But hey. So are most of the adolescents I come across. Who can tell whether it's from the music, or whether the music is from them?

It's a Hard Road. Don't know where to go, It' s like-

Devon went through a hip hop stage and I hated every minute of it.
Now he likes 80s stuff
and I have to say he's got great taste,ha.
It's nice to know about these guys!

Yes, a lot of hip hop is hard on my head too. And endlessly disappointing for women! 80's eh? Hmmm..

you have to have a great taste to like the 80s stuff, mmmmmmm

Hi Alison!
Ugh... I know what you mean about hiphop... I really don't get it AT ALL.
Interesting about Hilltop Hoods though, nice to hear they aren't out bashing anyone and that they have a sense of their own identity.
I always laugh at the British hiphop 'bands'-- or whatever they are called (yes, I own my utter uncoolness) when I see them strutting about dressed like Americans and speaking with fake American accents.

Nice to see you back lbp, hope to see you back on your own blog too.
